Understanding Drill Points

The "Point Length" is the axial distance from the drill tip to the start of the full diameter shoulder.

The Formula
$PL = (D / 2) / \tan(\text{Angle} / 2)$
Standard 118° Constant: 0.300 × Diameter
Standard 135° Constant: 0.207 × Diameter
Programming Tip

When programming a hole to a specific depth, you must usually add the tip length to your Z-coordinate if you need a full-diameter hole at that depth.

Note: Check your drill bit's specific geometry; split points or custom grinds may vary slightly.
