O-Ring Gland Tool

Select standard AS568 cross-sections to generate proper machining dimensions for O-ring grooves.

These dimensions adhere to standard Parker Hannifin O-Ring handbooks.

Finish requirement: Typically 32 µin (0.8 µm) Ra for static, and 16 µin (0.4 µm) Ra for dynamic seals.

Clearance & Extrusion

Diametrical clearance (the gap between mating parts) must be kept small. If the gap is too large or pressure is too high, the O-ring will extrude into the gap and tear. For high-pressure applications, a backup ring is required.

The "Squeeze"

The Gland Depth (L) is purposefully smaller than the O-ring Cross Section to compress the rubber. Dynamic seals use less squeeze (~10-15%) to reduce friction, while static seals use more (~15-25%) for a tighter seal.
