VISE JAWS PART Face Grip X/Y
Why add allowances?
  • Peripheral Cleanup: Extruded bar stock is rarely perfectly straight or dimensionally accurate. Adding 0.100" (2.5mm) gives you 0.050" on each side to machine away the rough outer skin.
  • Facing: Gives you material to establish a perfectly flat, clean Z-Zero datum.
  • Vise Grip: You need enough material for the vise jaws (or dovetail fixture) to grab securely without the cutter hitting the hard steel jaws during Op 1.
Purchasing Tip: Raw stock is sold in standard fractional or metric sizes. Buying exactly the minimum size is impossible. The calculator automatically rounds up to the next standard extrusion size (e.g., 1/8" increments for Imperial) to reflect reality.
