Draft Angle Recommender

Determine the required taper for vertical walls based on the part height, material type, and desired surface texture to ensure easy ejection from the mold.

Surface Finish Details
Textured walls act as thousands of tiny undercuts. They require more draft to prevent "scuffing" during ejection.

Why is Draft necessary?

Without draft, a part would maintain constant friction against the mold walls throughout the entire ejection stroke. This causes vacuum locks, scuffing, and eventually ruins the mold surface.

The Core Math
Offset (X) = Height × tan(Angle)

Use this to ensure your part thickness doesn't become too thin or too thick at the base of the draw.

General Rule: For most injection molded plastics, a minimum of 1° per 1" (25mm) of depth is a safe starting point. Textured surfaces usually require an additional 1.5° per 0.001" of texture depth.
