Repeatability (EV)

Equipment Variation. The variation in measurements obtained when exactly the same part is measured multiple times by the same appraiser using the same gage. If this is high, the gage itself needs maintenance or replacement.

Reproducibility (AV)

Appraiser Variation. The variation in the average of measurements made by different appraisers using the same gage measuring the same parts. If this is high, operators need better training on how to use the tool consistently.

Acceptance Criteria
  • Under 10%: Excellent gage system.
  • 10% to 30%: Acceptable depending on application, cost of gage, and repair costs.
  • Over 30%: Unacceptable. The measurement system needs immediate improvement.
